Mr Arjun Nambiar
Arjun is a Consultant Urological Surgeon specialising in robotic pelvic oncology and reconstructive urology. Based at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, he provides care for pelvic cancer, functional and reconstructive urological conditions, with a focus on treatment planning that reflects each patient’s needs.
About Mr. Nambiar
Arjun undertook his undergraduate medical training in Nepal and India before moving to the UK in 2009 to complete his postgraduate surgical training. He completed higher surgical training in urology in the North-East of England, followed by a Royal College of Surgeons-accredited fellowship in female, functional and reconstructive urology in 2020–21. He was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in December 2021, and holds a Master’s degree in clinical research and a certificate in medical education.
He has been involved in urological guideline development for over 15 years with the European Association of Urology (EAU), and currently sits on the EAU Non-Neurogenic Female LUTS Guideline Panel and the EAU Guidelines Office Methods Committee. He is also a current member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) Executive Committee for Functional and Reconstructive Urology, where he chairs the Robotic Working Group.
Arjun specialises in robotic pelvic surgery for bladder cancer and benign bladder disorders, as well as functional and reconstructive disorders of the urinary tract, including female and male urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, recurrent UTIs, ureteric stricture disease and management of endometriosis involving the urinary tract. He believes good urological care starts with listening, and works closely with each patient to tailor assessment and treatment to their individual circumstances, underpinned by an evidence-based approach.
He is widely published as an author of high-impact urological guidelines, book chapters and peer-reviewed publications, and is a regularly invited speaker at national and international conferences on robotic urological reconstructive surgery, female lower urinary tract symptoms and bladder cancer. He is also a national and international mentor for robotic urological reconstruction, and enjoys supporting the next generation of urologists coming through the specialty.
