Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon

Mr Rajan Veeratterapillay graduated from Newcastle University with distinction in 2006 and undertook specialist training in urology in the North East of England before completing his FRCS (Urol) examination in 2014. He subsequently completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and renal transplantation at the Freeman Hospital before being appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2016. He is a fellow of the European Board of Urology.

About Mr. Veeratterapillay

Mr Veeratterapillay specialises in robotic kidney surgery. His other specialist interests include prostate cancer diagnostics, stone surgery and minimally invasive surgery for benign prostate problems. He has led the development and contributed to the introduction of a number of new services within his department, including local anaesthetic transperineal prostate biopsy, Greenlight laser prostatectomy and REZUM. He has also introduced novel surgical techniques, including retroperitoneal robotic surgery, to the North East of England.

Mr Veeratterapillay has a strong research interest and has published widely in the field of urology, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has acted as Principal Investigator for a number of clinical trials and continues to be actively involved in urological research. He has received several awards in recognition of his clinical and academic work, including the American Urological Association Resident Bowl Award, a Local Clinical Excellence Award and a Clinical Impact Award.

He is actively involved in medical education and surgical training and has been Course Director for the Newcastle Transperineal Prostate Biopsy Course and BPH Simulation Training Course, as well as international faculty for laparoscopic, robotic and diagnostic urology (BAUS, SIU, EAU). He has led the Newcastle Surgical Training Centre simulation programme for urology and has been involved in introducing robotic surgical training into the urology curriculum. He has undertaken a number of charitable visits to overseas institutions to disseminate new surgical techniques and enhance patient
